Community mental health and psychosocial support programme

Aims to make mental health services available as an integrated part of the existing health system and promotes mental health issues in 17 districts (Ilam, Okhaldunga, Makwanpur, Dhading, Gorkha, Tanahun, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung, Syangja, Nawalparasi, Rupendehi, Palpa, Gulmi, Surkhet, Mugu and Bajhang). NGOs are supported to address the psychosocial needs of traumatised people in their programme areas.

 

 

Programme activities are:
  • Basic and refresher training in mental health for doctors and paramedic staff, with supervision visits and meetings
  • Training in basic listening skills, trauma related issues and counselling for local NGO staff, with regular supervision
  • Awareness raising activities (radio programmes, exhibitions and health camps)
  • Seed money for psychotropic drugs
  • Charity fund for poor chronic epileptic and psychotic patients
