Community mental health and psychosocial support programme

Aims to enhance the access to mental health and psychosocial services at government health facilities and facilitates to integrate mental health and psychosocial counselling into the existing public health system. This programme also intends to build capacity of local NGO partners and Mission Hospitals to address the psychosocial needs of traumatised people in their programme areas. This programme is implemented in 14 districts (Ilam, Morang, Okhaldunga, Dhading, Palpa, Gulmi, Rolpa, Salyan, Dailekh, Surkhet, Doti, Dadeldhura, Achham and Bajhang)in financial support of Tear Australia and Finnish Evangelical Lutheren Mission (FELM).

 

 

Programme activities are:
  • Basic and refresher training in mental health for doctors and paramedic staff, with supervision visits and meetings
  • Psychosocial counselling training for nursing, paramedical and local NGO staffs, with regular supervision
  • Awareness campaign through radio programmes, exhibitions, orientation workshops and health camps
  • Medicine distribution for poor epileptic and psychotic patients
  • Lobby and advocacy with government health authorities for the intregation of mental health and psychosocial counselling service into the existing public health system
