Celebration of World Health Day 2017
Depression: Let’s Talk !
On 7th April 2017, World Health Day was celebrated around the world with the theme of “Depression: Let’s Talk!”. In Nepal too, the day was celebrated with full enthusiasm.
CMC-Nepal in Kathmandu celebrated the day alongwith other organisations. In the morning, CMC-Nepal took part in a rally organized by Psychiatrist Association Nepal (PAN), including Dr. Pushpa Psd. Sharma, Mark-Nepal and other organisations from Baneswore to Maitighar Mandala where there was a talk program on awareness of preventing Depression & suicide and how we can help each other in such situation. Also, in the afternoon, in initiation with WHO and Mental Health Network, CMC- Nepal actively supported the program in Basantpur Durbar Square Area. Here, CMC-Nepal helped in raising awareness on Depression and Mental Health. In the program, there was poster exhibition, sharing of experience of the personnel who had depression (how they suffered and how they were cured), Street drama of depression, presentation on Depression by Dr. Kapil D. Upadhyaya, Sr. Psychiatrists, poetry session, face painting and smiley with selfie campaign, video sharing on depression and candle light where CMC-Nepal actively took part along with other organisations.
Likewise, CMC Nepal actively took part in awareness raising on the occasion in our working districts as below:
For the planning & preparation of the celebration of this day, a joint meeting in Salyan district was held between CMC-Nepal, District Health Office & Mental Health Self Help Group on 6th April 2017. On the World Health Day, a rally was organized in Khalanga market area where government and non- government officials, representatives from Mothers’ Group, Self Help Groups were involved, the leaflet on Depression was distributed to the people which helped the community aware about the Depression and Mental Health.
In Kailali district, CMC-Nepal celebrated the day in cooperation with Bhajani Primary Health Post in Bhajani Trishakti Nagarpalika by organizing an interaction program with Bhalmanshas (Head of Ward of Tharu Community). In the program, the discussion was done on the topic of Depression, Epilepsy, reasons behind suicide & its prevention and mental health.
In other working districts (Rasuwa, Dadeldhura, Okhaldhunga, Udaypur, Gorkha, Banke, Bardiya) CMC Nepal celebrated the day in coordination with SHGs, CPSWs and local partners by raising awareness on Depression and mental health. The pamphlet was also distributed.
